Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description

A shield shaped silver metal and epoxied device 1 7/32 (3.1cm) in height blazoned as follows: Per dancetty enhanced Vert and Murrey, a pile reversed Argent bearing a cross couped of the second. The shield is surmounting a staff entwined by a serpent, between two arched laurel branches, all silver. Attached below the shield and surmounting the staff, a maroon scroll doubled white inscribed WITH GREAT COMPASSION in silver.

Symbolism

The division of the shield via the chief (upper background) dancetty (jagged partition) alludes to the threes ummits of Mount Rainier- Columbia Crest, Point Success, and Success Cleaver. The pile reversed/wedge denotes the Greek letter Delta through its triangular shape, characterizing the letter D for Dental. The combination of the scroll and wreath form the shape of the Greek letter Omicron, to represent the letter O in Odont, meaning teeth. The caduceus and maroon cross are symbolic of medical expertise. Silver metal is associated with sterility and precision. The colors maroon and white are associated with the Army Medical Corps.
